A plumbing problem can happen when you least expect. Problems occur during the periods when the pipes are being placed under too much stress. The cold months can make your plumbing weak. Here are some ways to reinforce your plumbing during the winter months:
Keep pipes from the freezing. The winter temperature can easily freeze water even inside your home. If you are unaware of a burst pipe happening, this can result from a flood which can damage your home structure and your belongings.
Prevent pipes from freezing by having foam tubes wrapped the un-insulated pipes. Cut the tube to your desired length and place it around the pipe. Reinforce the foam with the use of duct tape.
Stop leaks. Make sure to check for leaks and have them fixed. Check the faucets in your bathroom and kitchen. Also, check for drips and puddles. Do not ignore these leaks and contact your plumber right away.
Water heater inspection. If you have an already rusted water heater, you may consider purchasing a new one before it really becomes really cold. You should also drain your water heater as it will cause rust to develop especially if you live in an area where hard water is located.
Clean the sump pump and pit. Sump pump exposed to extreme cold can freeze and cause it to stop working. This can lead to flooding, especially during winter rains. Inspect the pump and pit and do a proper cleaning before it is too late.
Make sure that you will have no worries during winter by making sure your pipes are all prepared for this cold season. When there is immediate concern on your plumbing, call for after hours plumbing to help you with the problem immediately.
